About us

Joy Foundation -JMM, a charitable foundation, founded in 2010 to further the mission work of the Joy Music Ministry. Since then, the organization has grown to become a beacon of light and hope inspiring village kids and less fortunate children to go to school and have a warm meal. This has been made possible through community donations and members contributions.

Our History

In 2011, a team of Joy Foundation members arrived in the village of Zorkulewen, situated in Dewein District (Bomi County, Liberia) in an effort to identify villages for charitable distributions (food, clothing, baby supplies and toys), and village children eligible for our Joy Foundation Educational Scholarship Program. This scholarship program was intended to identify five (5) students per selected village to benefit from the program. Intentionally, these students will return after their education to help their respective community.

It was during this visit that the villagers requested the team to consider all the children’s education by helping them build a school in their village; and not just help only five (5), as they locked the financial resources to send their children to the big city/town for schooling. In short, they did not want any child to be left out of this educational opportunity.

After careful study and consideration, the Foundation’s Board decided to undertake the construction of an elementary school facility in that village in 2016. Subsequently, the school was completed and dedicated to the villagers in 2017.

The school – named Joy Foundation Academy (JFA) – is now serving, including Zorkulewen ten (10) surrounding villages, namely: Messila, Zorkulewen, Amadu Town, Baindablé, Royesville, Degbeh, Bogbeh, Korma, Mecilai, and Jetti. The school currently runs from Pre-K to 6th grade due to the destruction of our main building by a storm; but hope to extend to 8th Grade when renovation is done. JFA now have a total enrollment of 137 students: 67 boys and 70 girls.

Our Challenges

We are faced with several challenges in executing our mission:

  • Fundings for School building renovation project/re-built school building to have a modern learning facility
  • Transportation for the students to get to and from school traveling from the neighboring villages
  • Funding to pay the salaries of the teachers and other support staff to keep the school doors open.
